Innovate4Cities 2021 Conference
Innovate4Cities 2021 is a virtual global and regional event organised by UN-Habitat and the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) that promises to bring together science and innovation, policy and practice united by a common objective: enabling cities to take accelerated and more ambitious climate action.
The conference will focus on the nexus between science and practice with a focus on innovation — vital to realizing ambitious climate action. The conference will also closely examine local challenges and priority needs as well as cross-sector, cross-topic pathways to achieving success. This iteration of the conference promises to feature a much stronger focus on regional voices.

Background for this session:
Global climate change will be both accelerated and mitigated through the nature of life; in cities and because of city systems, through the carbon footprint of a globe that is increasingly urban. Understanding and highlighting how climate action is localised in complex urban areas is therefore essential to reducing the impacts of climate change, while promoting resilience of people, communities and systems. This event brings together a diverse panel of researchers and practitioners in a public forum, opening up space for discussions, challenging debate and vigorous responses to the panel’s provocations about the “PEAK Urban” framework. The framework is a ‘policy innovation’, a novel tool for policy-makers and practitioners to understand complex urban spaces enabling more effective urban policy formulation.
